Charged with assaulting woman
The charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to one year or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: A 22-year-old man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here with assaulting a woman last week.

Norikmal Jamlih pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to voluntarily causing hurt to one Sri Indrayana Halim on April 1 at 1am at a unit in Lido Four Season Residence, Lintas Jaya, here.

The prosecution, in applying for a pre-trial case management (PTCM) date, proposed bail at RM5,000 in two sureties.

In another case, a 21-year-old woman was fined RM1,300 or one month’s jail for engaging in online gambling in a public place.

Syahira Dullah pleaded guilty to committing the offence on Dec 22 last year at 11.40am at a staircase behind a premises at Taman Kepayan Ridge here.

She was charged under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to six months or both, on conviction.

The court heard that police detained Syahira after observing her acting suspiciously.

A handphone and RM94 in cash were seized, and an expert report confirmed that the device was used for online gambling activities.

The court ordered the seized money to be forfeited as government revenue.
