Bodyguard charged with criminal intimidation
The charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years or a fine or both, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: A 36-year-old bodyguard was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here with criminal intimidation.

Johnny Roni pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to threatening to kill one Roney Taipok at 4.30pm on April 7 this year in front of a house in Kg Nabangkung, Kobusak, Penampang.

The charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years or a fine or both, on conviction.

The prosecution proposed bail at RM5,000 in two sureties.

The court fixed June 4 for pre-trial case management and released the accused on bail of RM1,600 in two sureties, with additional conditions that he must not interfere with the complainant or prosecution witnesses and is to report to the investigating officer once a month.

In another case, two women were fined a total of RM3,300 for having gambling parahernalia.

Nurfarhanah Mat Zaidin, 34, and Norlin Kamis, 24, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to the charges against them respectively.

Nurfarhanah was ordered to pay a fine of RM1,700 or one month jail for having four pieces of lottery without a valid licence on Jan 31, this year, at 2.40am, at the five-foot-way of a restaurant, Donggongon Point, Donggongon, Penampang.

The court heard from the prosecution that items seized from Nurfarhanah included a Nokia mobile phone, RM52 in cash, a mobile printer, and four illegal lottery slips.

Meanwhile, Norlin was fined RM1,600 or one month in jail for having three pieces of lottery tickets without a licence on Jan 27, this year, at 1.30pm, outside a restaurant in Kivatu, Penampang.

Both Nurfarhanah and Norlin were charged under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to six months jail, on conviction.
