Kota Kinabalu: A shop assistant who is five-months pregnant was fined RM800 or spend 14 days in prison for selling unregistered cosmetic products.
Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan handed down the sentence to Hamizah Hassan, 23, after she pleaded guilty to the charge against her on Thursday.

Hamizah has sold the two products namely, one unit Brilliant Rejuv Topical cream and one unit Brilliant Rejuv Topical Solution toner which were not registered with the Ministry of Health (WOH), to a man.
The offence took place at 11.49am on July 4, 2024 at the Trish Cosmetic Boutique in Parklane City, Benoni, Papar.
The offence under Regulation 7 (1)(a) of the Control of Drugs and Cosmetic Regulations 1984 carries a jail term of up to three years or a fine of up to RM50,000, or both, upon conviction.
In asking for a lenient sentence, Hamizah who was not represented, claimed that she was only a worker at the shop and merely doing her job as a staff.

She informed the court that she was no longer working at the shop and currently five months pregnant.
However, Pharmacy Department Prosecuting Officer Angeline Francis William urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence on Hamizah to serve as a lesson to her and would-be offenders not to commit a similar offence in future.
In the same court, the shop owner where Hamizah was previously worked, was ordered to pay a fine of RM1,500 in default 14 days’ jail for having three unregistered products.
Rosmenah, 33, pleaded guilty to having the unregistered products namely, five bottles of Jamu Queen Control, 38 units of Brilliant Rejuv Topical cream and 38 units of Brilliant Rejuv Topical Solution toner at the same place and time.
Rosmenah, who was unrepresented, prayed for a lenient sentence saying that she is really struggling with financial with shop rental fee which was too high but the business is very slow.
