Two men were fined RM5,000, in default, four months’ jail each for possessing poison.
Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan imposed the sentence on Amar Maruf Makruf, 42, and Abdul Ayom Matsani, 27, after they pleaded guilty separately to the charge against them.

Amar Maruf had in possession the scheduled poison namely Mirtazapine weighing 3.51grams at a parking lot at 11.21pm at the City area on May 18, 2025.
Mirtazapine is listed in the First Schedule of the Poisons Act 1952.
Amar had committed the offence under Section 9 (1) of the Poisons Act 1952 and punishable under Section 32(2) of the same Act which provides for a fine of up to RM10,000, or a jail term of up to four years or both, upon conviction.
During mitigation, Amar who was not represented asked for a lenient sentence on the grounds that he has three children to look after.

Amar further said that he is a divorcee and had saved the court’s time by pleading guilty to the said charge.
The prosecution urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence against Amar on the grounds that it was not Amar’s first offence as he had served a jail sentence previously a similar offence.
For Abdul Ayom, he was accused of having 2,500 millilitres of liquid contained Mitragynine or locally known as ketum at a pedestrian lane near Jalan Menteri here on Sept 22, 2025.
Mytraginine is listed in First Schedule and Third Schedule (Psychotropic Substance) of the Poisons Act 1952.
The offence was under Section 30 (3), punishable under Section 30 (5) both of the Poisons Act 1952 carries a fine of up to RM10,000, or a jail term of up to four years or both, upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Bryan Francis appeared for the prosecution while Abdul Ayom was not represented.
