He said initial investigations revealed the vehicle involved was a Proton Persona driven by a 55-year-old local with three passengers, travelling from Ranggu towards Tawau town, while the pedestrian was believed to have been crossing from the left side of the road to the right prior when the incident happened.

The driver was travelling in the right lane and could not avoid the crash due to the short distance, he said.
