‘Kinabalu cable car project a sure winner’
Jenny pointed out that cable car systems are widely used in countries such as China, Japan and Vietnam, as well as across Europe, including in areas recognised as Unesco World Heritage Sites.
Kota Kinabalu: The proposed cable car project in Kundasang, at Mount Kinabalu, has been described as a forward-looking initiative that could significantly boost Sabah’s tourism industry.

Founder and President of the Sabah Malaysia My Second Home (Sabah-MM2H) Advisory Association, Jenny Ngu, said the project is expected to introduce a new attraction for international visitors while also benefiting local communities.

She said the development could help position Kundasang as a new iconic destination, increase tourist arrivals, stimulate economic growth and create more job opportunities for Sabahans.

At the same time, she noted that the project would bring added value to Sabah-MM2H participants and support efforts to diversify and internationalise the State’s tourism sector.

Cosmobeauté Malaysia and beautyexpo will expand into East Malaysia with the launch of the Cosmobeauté Malaysia Borneo Festival 2026 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) from May 25 to 26.
“Sabah’s tourism should not be limited to Semporna and island destinations. There is strong potential to expand into inland and highland tourism offerings,” she said.

Jenny pointed out that cable car systems are widely used in countries such as China, Japan and Vietnam, as well as across Europe, including in areas recognised as Unesco World Heritage Sites.

In Malaysia, she said successful examples include the Langkawi SkyCab and Genting Skyway, with similar developments also underway at Penang Hill.

She added that Mount Kinabalu should not be accessible only to climbers. With a cable car system, the elderly, persons with disabilities and young children would also be able to enjoy the mountain’s scenic sunrise and sunset views.

“This will make the State’s natural heritage more accessible to a wider group of visitors,” she said.

Jenny also urged the State Government to improve road infrastructure from Tamparuli to Kundasang to support future tourism growth, ensuring safer and more convenient travel for visitors.

“Let the world come to Mount Kinabalu, and let Mount Kinabalu reach the world,” she added.
