TAWAU: Firefighters were deployed early Tuesday morning to assist in retrieving the body of a man found entangled in a ship’s anchor rope at the Tawau Fishery Port.

The distress call was received at 3.35am, with a team from the Tawau Fire and Rescue Station arriving at the scene within three minutes.

Rescuers used specialised equipment to cut the rope before lowering the victim from the vessel on a stretcher.

The body was then handed over to police for further investigation.

The victim was identified as Padro Juvie, a 40-year-old man, and was pronounced dead at the scene. The operation concluded at 5.01am.
