LABUAN: A total of 1,189 candidates, representing 97.70 per cent of those who sat for the 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination here, have qualified to receive their certificates, surpassing the national qualification rate.
Labuan Education Department Director Yahya Ahmad Putih said he is grateful that they have managed to exceed the national benchmark, describing the outcome as a strong result for Labuan.
“From the standpoint of certificate eligibility, Labuan has successfully surpassed the national achievement rate of 97.70 per cent and this is a good result for us,” he said when met by RTM reporters at the SPM 2025 results announcement ceremony held at the SM St Anne’s Dewan Muhibbah.
A total of 1,344 candidates, including private and independent candidates, sat for the examination on the island.
Among the highlights, 34 candidates achieved straight As across all subjects this year, a modest improvement from the 30 candidates who did so in 2024.
Yahya also noted that all nine Special Needs Education candidates who sat for the examination were eligible to receive their SPM certificates, a 100 per cent pass rate compared to five special needs candidates in the previous year.
He said this reflects the continued effectiveness of the Ministry of Education’s efforts to ensure the national education system remains both quality-driven and inclusive.
The announcement was met with visible joy among the candidates gathered at the ceremony.
Kimberly Knightingale Vivian Takom, who achieved 6As, said she is thrilled and satisfied with her results.
“All my effort exceeded what I had expected. My success was driven by the support of my parents,” she said, accompanied by her mother, Audry Bertran Lauge.
Nur Sarah Azman, who scored 9As, was moved to tears over her outstanding results.
“I am happy and grateful. Even when I was checking online in the car with my father beside me, I cried.
“It was truly worth it. From Form Four, I studied seriously and I feel the hard work has paid off,” she said.
For Nur Harisya Husna Mohd Nizam, who also earned 9As, the achievement was a collective effort.
“My parents, teachers and friends always helped me. Studying in groups and through online learning helped us recall what we had learned,” she said.
