SIPITANG: A mistake by a petrol station worker in not returning a MyKad to its rightful owner caused a stir, here, on Sunday.
The error, which went unnoticed initially, occurred at 8.20pm and forced a female government employee to wait at the station for several hours before she could retrieve her identification card, which had been given to another customer.
She said the worker should have ensured that the MyKad was returned to the rightful owner.
The station manager immediately lodged a police report and reviewed CCTV footage. Through sharing on WhatsApp, a member of the public returned the document to the woman later that same night.
The victim advised customers to ensure that any documents returned to them are indeed theirs before leaving a petrol station.
“Imagine having to wait so long due to such negligence. Fortunately, it (MyKad) did not fall into the hands of irresponsible individuals, which could have led to misuse.
“This kind of negligence should not happen if the worker had double-checked and properly identified the rightful customer,” she said.
It is understood that this was the first such incident since the petrol station began operations in Sipitang, and the worker involved has been employed there for two and a half years.
