Kota Kinabalu: Cement Industries (Sabah) Sdn Bhd (CIS) paid RM500,000 in business zakat for 2025 to the Sabah Zakat Centre, benefiting asnaf groups and orphans.
The zakat was handed over by its Chairman, Datuk Japlin Akim, to Sabah Zakat Centre representative Iwansuzairie Hari, who is also Assistant Secretary for Zakat and Fitrah at MUIS, during a ceremony held here on Tuesday.
Japlin said as a state government-owned company, CIS not only plays a role in supporting Sabah’s economic development but is also committed to channelling part of its profits to those in need through zakat contributions.
“As a government-linked company, we carry the responsibility of contributing to the state’s growth while also sharing our earnings with the community through zakat distribution.
“We hope this contribution will help ease the burden of the poor and asnaf, especially as they prepare for the upcoming Aidilfitri celebration,” he said.
Also present were CIS General Manager Sumardi Mohd Yusof, MUIS Deputy President Datuk Ustaz Malai Ali Malai Ahmad, and CIS management staff.
In addition to the zakat handover, CIS also organised an iftar programme with 60 orphans and asnaf from several welfare homes, including Rumah Anak Yatim & Asnaf As Sakinah, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Bayu Raudhah Sabah and Pusat Pengajian Tahfiz Al-Quran As-Syatibiyah.
Each welfare home received RM2,000 in assistance.
“This initiative reflects CIS’ ongoing commitment to supporting welfare efforts and helping asnaf groups and those in need in Sabah,” Japlin added.
The event also served as a platform to strengthen ties between the corporate sector, government agencies and the community, especially during the blessed month of Ramadan.
