Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah State Baitulmal Corporation (PBNS) continued its annual initiative to assist underprivileged families ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri through its Shopping Raya programme.
PBNS Chairman Datuk Dr Omar Raisul As-Salam Syah Datuk Sulaiman Omar said the programme allows students from low-income families to shop for Aidilfitri clothing and essentials, easing the financial burden on their families.
Some 27 students were selected for the programme, comprising 26 pupils from Sekolah Kebangsaan Bongol and one from Sekolah Kebangsaan Lokos.
“Today we are spending time with these students to purchase their Aidilfitri necessities, particularly their clothing,” he said when contacted by the media after the programme on Saturday.
He said the initiative aims to ensure students from less fortunate backgrounds can prepare for the festive celebration with greater joy and meaning.
Omar added that the programme reflects PBNS’s efforts to strengthen the role of the baitulmal institution while safeguarding the welfare of those in need.
“PBNS remains committed to implementing various welfare and community development programmes to ensure assistance is effectively delivered to those who need it across Sabah,” he said.
Apart from the shopping experience, the students also received cash contributions presented by Omar.
