KOTA KINABALU: Gerakan Kuasa Rakyat Malaysia (G57) has urged an end to attempts to link a fatal accident on the Pan Borneo Highway in Papar with the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah’s (TYT) birthday celebration.
Its chairman, Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdar, said such claims circulating online are baseless, stressing the TYT celebration is a non-political state event symbolising unity and not related to infrastructure projects.

He said delays in the Sabah Pan Borneo Highway project stem from multiple factors, including the 2018 cancellation of the Project Delivery Partner (PDP) model, contractor performance issues — with RM31.8 million in penalties imposed — as well as land acquisition, utility relocation and technical challenges.
“These are complex implementation issues that should not be reduced to misleading narratives,” he said.
Zulkarnain also criticised claims by a group identifying itself as “Suara Mahasiswa UMS”, describing them as unsubstantiated and unfairly targeting the state palace institution.
He stressed the TYT institution is a symbol of unity and must not be politicised.
