Man fined RM2,000 for assaulting kids
He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, on conviction. Indrawan, who was undocumented, had initially claimed trial to the charge on Dec 23 last year.
Kota Kinabalu: A 37-year-old unemployed man was fined RM2,000 or eight months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here for assaulting two underage boys in Inanam.

Indrawan Rahman pleaded guilty to committing the offence against the boys, aged 13 and 14, at Kg Kapa, Sinulihan, at 8am on Dec 5, 2025.

The prosecution stated that a police report was lodged on Dec 15, 2025, by a relative who brought the victims to the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters.

Investigations revealed that Indrawan had repeatedly assaulted the victims, including punching, kicking, and throwing objects at them without reason.

One of the boys fled the house and later told the complainant that he could no longer endure the abuse.

Further investigations also found that the victims were at times confined in a room with Indrawan. He was subsequently arrested by police. 

The court ordered that Indrawan be referred to the Immigration Department after paying the fine or serving the jail sentence.

In a separate case, a 24-year-old woman was fined RM1,200 or one month’s jail for gambling in a public place.  

Dayang Azlina Abdul pleaded guilty before the same magistrate to committing the offence at the five-foot way of a restaurant at Likas Plaza at 11.15am on Feb 24.

The charge under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 provides for a fine of up to RM5,000, imprisonment of up to six months, or both on conviction.

The prosecution stated that police, acting on information under “Op Dadu”, conducted surveillance at the location before approaching Azlina. 

Officers found items used for online gambling in her possession, which were seized upon her arrest.
