Kota Kinabalu: Newly-appointed Chairman of Qhazanah Sabah Berhad (QSB), Tan Sri Anifah Aman, pledged to further strengthen the State-owned investment arm while continuing to prioritise social responsibility initiatives.
QSB, incorporated in 1995 to drive economic growth in the State, manages a diversified portfolio, including telecommunications, logistics, finance, healthcare and property development.
Anifah said he was honoured to participate in one of his first Ramadan engagements with the group since assuming the post, describing the responsibility as significant.
“I look forward to working closely with all parties to further enhance Qhazanah Sabah’s role in contributing to the development and well-being of Sabah.
“However, in pursuing progress and economic growth, we must not neglect our responsibility to the community.
The month of Ramadan reminds us of the values of humanity, compassion and the importance of sharing our blessings with those in need,” he said in his speech at a breaking-of-fast event with orphans cum handing-over of duties of the QSB Chairman and Chief Executive Officer posts, on Monday.
Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob handed over the Chairman post to Anifah, while Datuk Ahmad Rizal bin Dahli handed over the CEO post to Mohamad Damshal bin Awang Damit.
At the event, 60 orphans from Home Tuaran and Rumah Anak Yatim & Madrasah Tahfiz Darul Yatama Yacob Khan were feted.
Anifah said economic progress must go hand in hand with compassion and responsibility towards the community, noting that Ramadan serves as a reminder of the importance of humanity and sharing with those in need.
As part of its corporate social responsibility efforts, he said Qhazanah Sabah contributed RM135,000 in business zakat, while its associate, Celcom Timur Sabah Sdn Bhd, donated RM1.1 million to the Sabah Zakat Centre for distribution to eligible Asnaf (underprivileged) recipients.
