Kota Kinabalu: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Kasim Mansor
(pic) has reminded students to remain vigilant amid the current uncertain weather conditions during the semester break.
He advised students to prioritise their safety and health, particularly as continuous heavy rain has been affecting several areas in Sabah.
“Avoid any activities near rivers, low-lying areas that are easily flooded and locations at risk of flooding.
“For the record, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (Met Malaysia) on Monday issued a Continuous Rain Alert (Alert Level) for several areas in Sabah from March 10 until March 11, including the West Coast (Ranau), Tawau (Lahad Datu), Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran and Sandakan) and Kudat,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Kasim also urged students to follow weather updates, postpone risky outdoor activities and contact the university through the Student Affairs Department (JHEP) if they are affected by floods or face difficulties due to adverse weather conditions.
