About 20 graves affected in Sim Sim cemetery landslide

SANDAKAN: About 20 graves were reported affected following a landslide at the Sim Sim Cemetery area early Wednesday morning.

Sandakan District Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Captain Sulaiman Salama said the team carried out monitoring at the location shortly after receiving a report on the incident.

“Inspection found that the collapse occurred on a cemetery hillside and involved about 20 graves,” he said in a statement.

He added that no road was affected, with the landslide estimated to be about 12 metres from the nearby road.

APM said there is a possibility of further landslides if heavy rain continues, and advised the public to remain cautious and avoid the affected area as monitoring will continue to ensure public safety.
