Mechanic charged with cheating woman
The charge under Section 403 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to five years, caning and a possible fine on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: A 52-year-old mechanic was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here to a charge of misappropriating RM1,200 belonging to a woman.

Chung Teck Yen pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to have dishonestly misappropriated RM1,200 belonging to one Rose Undok between Nov 19 and Dec 17, 2025, at a bank branch in Penampang.

Wan Farrah set May 7 for pre-trial case management and offered the accused on bail of RM2,000 with two local sureties.

Giovanni Kim Keon pleaded guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunusto committing the offence at a premises in Taman Victory, Penampang on Nov 14, 2025, at 7.30pm.

The court heard from the prosecution that the police on ‘Ops Dadu’ detained a man later identified as Giovanni for being involved in illegal online gambling activity at the area.

The police also seized a handphone used in the activity.

Analysis of the seized exhibits confirmed that the handphone used contained a gaming application with elements of online gambling, according to a gambling expert.

Giovanni was charged under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000, a jail term of up to six months, or both, on conviction.

Inspector Mohamad Hamidi Mohamad Hamzah prosecuted while Giovanni was unrepresented.
