SOOK: The dairy cattle project operated by the Sabah Land Development Board (LKTNS) at the Sabah Livestock Dairies Breeder Binakaan Farm here is showing encouraging progress and has the potential to boost local fresh milk production in Sabah.

Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Isnin Aliasnih, said the project’s achievements demonstrate that the dairy farming sector holds strong potential to be developed further as a new source of economic growth for the state.

He said based on a briefing received during the visit, the farm is currently capable of producing between 60,000 and 90,000 litres of fresh milk each month.

“This level of production allows the farm to generate between RM200,000 and RM300,000 in monthly revenue, which is a very encouraging performance,” he said after visiting the dairy cattle project.

According to him, the farm, which houses about 1,000 dairy cows, could generate an estimated RM3.6 million annually if the current production level is maintained.

Isnin expressed hope that the number of dairy cattle at the LKTNS-owned farm could be increased in the future to further boost fresh milk output and farm revenue.

He added that more systematic farm management, together with the adoption of modern livestock farming technologies, has helped improve productivity and the quality of milk produced.

Later the same day, Isnin attended a Ramadan iftar event at Masjid Al-Hidayah Nabawan organised by LKTNS, where he presented food baskets and cash assistance to 50 asnaf, as well as a financial contribution to the mosque management.

Meanwhile, LKTNS Chairman Abdul Ghani Yassin said the agency plans to expand the project if the positive progress continues.

He said the expansion is important to strengthen the food industry, particularly the production of locally produced dairy products in Sabah.

“It also supports the call by Chief Minister Hajiji Noor for state GLCs to be more proactive and to submit monthly progress reports to the state leadership,” he said.

Earlier, LKTNS General Manager Syaheddrul R. Joddari said in his welcoming remarks that the Ramadan iftar programme is an annual event organised by the agency during the fasting month.

Also present were Nabawan District Officer Marshal Anthony @ Idham, SLDB senior managers, heads of departments and community leaders.
