SEMPORNA: Police arrested two men in separate operations in Kampung Bangau Bangau and Kampung Batu, here, on Tuesday.
District Police Chief, Supt. Tan Hiap Wah said following an operation at Kampung Bangau Bangau at about 1.15pm, police from the Narcotic Crime Investigation Division apprehended a 32-year-old man who was acting suspicious.
He said, inspection on the suspect found substances believed to be Syabu weighing 5.74 grams in his possession.
The case would be investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
In another operation carried out by Kunak 22nd Battalion General Operation Force (GOF) at Kampung Batu, a 42-year-old local man was detained after found having substances believed to be Syabu weighing 0.67 grams.
Tan Hiap Wah said the suspect was taken to Semporna Police Headquarters for further investigation under Section 12(3) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.
“Further checks conducted on both suspects found the Filipino man had no previous criminal records while the local man had three previous records related to drugs as well as one criminal record.
“We will continue to intensify operations to combat drug abuse and drug trafficking activities in this district. Those found involved in these activities will face legal actions without compromise,” he said.
In the meantime, Police also call on the public to convey any information including drugs to the police for immediate action.
