Tenom: Six young men who lost their motorcycle-trolleys after acting swiftly to help stop a train experiencing brake failure at Kampung Pangi here, early Tuesday, received good news – Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor agreed to donate new motorcycles to them.
State Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister Datuk Jamawi Jaafar, who is also Melalap Assemblyman, said he was informed of the matter by the Chief Minister’s Political Chief Secretary Azrul Ibrahim.

The motorcycles destroyed or damaged during the incident.
“Representing the six young men, I record my sincere thanks for this kindness and contribution,” he said.
Commenting on the incident, which has gone viral under the moniker “Train To Pangi,” Jamawi noted that while various versions of the story have emerged, the most important fact remains the courageous action of the six motorcycle-trolley owners.
They placed their vehicles on the tracks to slow down the train, which was out of control due to brake issues.
“Had those six motorcycle-trolleys not been placed on the tracks, a greater disaster could have occurred as the driver would have been unable to control the train’s speed,” he said.
“Congratulations also to the train driver for remaining calm and composed while managing the situation. The positioning of the six motorcycles successfully slowed the train and enabled the driver to regain control,” he said.
He described the six motorcycle-trolley owners as “unsung heroes” who were willing to sacrifice their property for the safety of teachers and passengers. Jamawi also offered words of encouragement to the teachers of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pangi who were on board the train during the incident.
“May you remain steadfast in your spirit to continue educating the nation’s children in the Interior. I am proud of you all.”
