Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Umno has strongly condemned an act allegedly insulting the Quran that recently went viral on social media.
Sabah Umno State Secretary Samasuddin Yusop
(pic) described the act of stepping on and desecrating the holy book of Islam as extreme and irresponsible, warning that it could trigger tension among communities of different religions and races in the state that has long lived in harmony.
He said Sabah Umno supports the statement by State Religious Affairs Exco Datuk Arifin Arif that the matter must not be compromised and should be thoroughly investigated by the authorities.
It urged the relevant authorities, including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department (Jheains) and Sabah Islamic Religious Council (Muis), to conduct an immediate investigation and take firm action under the law against those involved.
He also called on the public to remain calm, avoid taking matters into their own hands and allow authorities to carry out a professional and fair investigation.
