SANDAKAN: Three houses and three non-permanent grocery shops were destroyed in a fire at Kampung Bukit Nenas, Karamunting, early Wednesday morning.
Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station chief Jimmy Lagung said the department received an emergency call through the NG999 line at 3.01am before a fire engine and personnel were dispatched to the scene about 13 kilometres from the station.

He said firefighters arrived at 3.14am and found the blaze had engulfed three wooden houses and three grocery shops covering an estimated 90 by 150 feet area, all of which were completely destroyed.
A motorcycle was also involved in the fire and was 100 per cent destroyed, he said in a statement.
Jimmy said firefighters brought the blaze under control at 3.40am using an 800-foot hose line with two water jets from the fire engine, preventing the fire from spreading to about 350 nearby houses, while no injuries were reported.
