Kota Kinabalu: City Hall (DBKK) has intensified monitoring operations at Ramadan bazaars to ensure cleanliness, food safety and waste management comply with stipulated regulations.
Mayor Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah said daily inspections are carried out comprehensively by DBKK’s Solid Waste Management Department, Health Department and Enforcement Department, including at bazaars managed by associations under the local authority’s administration.
“Besides cleanliness levels, we also check whether those involved in food preparation have received the required vaccinations for food handlers.
“DBKK also inspects the food sold to ensure it is properly covered and not spoiled.
“We also monitor traders conducting live cooking to ensure used cooking oil is not indiscriminately disposed of into nearby drains.
“These are among the measures taken by DBKK to ensure food sold meets the prescribed health standards,” he said when met after the breaking of fast event with Tun Musa Aman and his wife Toh Puan Faridah Tussin, on Monday.
The event was attended by 700 DBKK and DBKK Holdings personnel as well as 300 guests from the State and Federal government departments and non-governmental organisations.
