Probe Pangi train brake failure, expedite Tenom–Pangi road project
The motorcycle trolley believed to have stopped the train.
TENOM: A train carrying teachers to SK Pangi suffered a brake failure earlier today, prompting serious safety concerns.

Datuk Jamawi Jaafar has urged the railway department to conduct a full and immediate investigation into the incident to prevent recurrence.

He stressed that rail transport is a critical lifeline for residents and civil servants in the area, making proper maintenance essential.

He also expressed appreciation to several villagers who bravely placed a motorcycle trolley on the tracks to help stop the train, a risky move that likely prevented a more serious tragedy.

Jamawi further called on the Public Works to expedite the approved road project linking Tenom to Pangi.

The project, approved by the Sabah Chief Minister in early 2025 with a contractor already appointed, should not be delayed, he said, as the lack of alternative road access leaves residents vulnerable whenever rail services are disrupted.
