LAHAD DATU: A 42-year-old man was killed in an accident involving a motorcycle and a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle at Jalan Lahad Datu Bypass, Flyover Batu 6 along Jalan Lahad Datu-Tawau, here, on Sunday.
District Police Chief ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail said preliminary investigations found that the accident occurred when the 34-year-old 4WD driver lost control of his vehicle and skidded.
The 4WD then struck a motorcycle that was parked on the road shoulder, with the victim believed to have been resting on it at the time.
“The impact of the crash caused the motorcyclist to die at the scene, while the 4WD driver and his passengers escaped unhurt,” he said.
According to Dzulbaharin, the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Police have urged those who witnessed the incident to contact the investigating officer, Insp. Jafri Junat from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, at 089-881255 or to report to the nearest police station to assist in the investigation.
Dzulbaharin also reminded road users to remain cautious at all times to avoid any untoward incidents.
