SANDAKAN: Malaysian Red Crescent Society Sandakan Branch, led by chairman Josie Pang Yuk Yen and its committee members, visited Rumah Warga Emas Sri Harapan Sandakan to deliver donations and celebrate Chinese New Year with residents. The annual festive visit was warmly welcomed by the home’s caretaker, who expressed appreciation for the association’s continued thoughtfulness.

Pang said the programme aims to ensure senior citizens at the care home experience the joy and attention of the community during the celebrations. She stressed that caring for the elderly goes beyond material aid, emphasising the importance of emotional support, respect and love. “This visit is not just about handing over donations, but a form of moral support and fostering bonds of affection between generations,” she said.

She also called on the public to show consistent care for the elderly throughout the year, not only during festive seasons. Pang added that the association would continue strengthening its welfare efforts for senior citizens and encouraged more people to help cultivate a compassionate and supportive community.

Meanwhile, the association’s legal advisor, Gary Chung Bi Zhang, presented red packets to each of the home’s 45 residents as a gesture of blessings and well-being.

Donated bags containing food, beverages and daily necessities were fully sponsored by generous individuals. The home frequently requires items such as adult disposable diapers, disinfectant and detergent, and committee members spent time interacting with residents and listening to their stories during the visit.
