SANDAKAN: A 33-year-old man was acquitted of four cheating charges related to the alleged approval of financial loans for four borrowers.
Magistrate Nur Faezah Jafry discharged and acquitted Gui Chee Wai after ruling that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against him.
Gui, who works as a supervisor at a licensed moneylending company, was accused of committing the offences between July 27, 2022, and January 19, 2023.
The court noted doubts in the evidence presented by the prosecution, leading to Gui’s acquittal and discharge at the close of the prosecution’s case.
Gui faced accusations of fraudulently approving loans for four individuals, with sums totaling RM39,000, RM12,500, RM7,500, and RM17,740. The charges were framed under Section 417 of the Penal Code.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Jasmine Walker led the prosecution, calling five witnesses during the trial, which began on February 12, 2025. Gui was represented by counsel Dominic Chew.
