BEAUFORT: An open hall has been completed at Masjid Ukhuwah in Mukim Gadong here to facilitate social, religious and community activities.
Sipitang Member of Parliament Datuk Matbali Musah said the construction of the hall was funded through an allocation previously approved by Deputy Prime Minister II Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof.

He said the 3,500sq ft open hall, built at a cost of RM250,000, was completed in October, last year.
“The design of this open hall is slightly different as the available land within the mosque compound is quite limited, but it is still able to accommodate various social activities.
“At the same time, this facility can be used to accommodate more congregants, especially during Friday prayers, tarawih prayers in Ramadan or Aidilfitri prayers,” he said.
Matbali said this to reporters at the breaking of fast event and official opening ceremony of the Ukhuwah Open Hall in Mukim Gadong, which was also attended by Lumadan assemblyman Datuk Ruslan Muharam, here, recently.
Matbali, who is also Chairman of the Malaysian Cocoa Board (Sabah), said three other open halls were built under the same allocation at Sekolah Agama Negeri (SAN) Lingkungan and SAN Weston.
He said the infrastructure development aims to enliven mosque and surau institutions while demonstrating continued support for the Muslim community in the Sipitang parliamentary constituency.
“Besides Masjid Ukhuwah, two more halls in the Sindumin state constituency have also been approved and completed. Their opening ceremonies will be held in the near future.
“It is hoped that these facilities will be fully utilised by local residents as centres for community, religious as well as official and informal functions,” he said.
Earlier, Matbali and Ruslan also presented financial contributions and dates in conjunction with Ramadan to 34 mosques and 41 surau in the Lumadan and Sipitang parliamentary areas.
