SOOK: Murut Bookan Sabah has expressed full support for the call made by the President of the Sabah Timugon Murut Ethnic Association for the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to investigate a Murut-language song created using artificial intelligence (AI) technology, which is alleged to contain pornographic elements.

Its President, Akinon Julius, said that the issue is of significant concern as it involves the dignity, heritage, and cultural values of the Murut community, which must be preserved and respected.

He highlighted that the misuse of AI to generate immoral content not only violates societal norms but also has the potential to damage the reputation of the Murut community and undermine cultural sensitivities.

“The digital space should not be misused to disseminate content that contradicts the decency and moral values of Malaysian society,” he said in a statement.

Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the two projects together would add 28MWac of new power generation capacity, helping to stabilise electricity supply in Sabah.
Akinon emphasised that if any violations are discovered, action must be taken in accordance with the laws governing communication and online content.

Murut Bookan Sabah fully supports a thorough investigation by MCMC and urges that any pornographic content found in violation of the law be promptly blocked.
