Tenom: The Sabah Murut Association (PMS) announced plans to rotate the position of the association’s President, effective next year.
According to its President Datuk Rubin Balang, the move is to provide space for more leaders from among the Murut community to lead the organisation in the future.
He said the transition of the President’s post will be implemented through a rotation system agreed upon by the Supreme Committee members in an internal meeting, involving each Murut sub-ethnic association in turn.
“The President’s post will be rotated every two or three years according to the constitution, to be agreed upon later so that in each turn Murut sub-ethnics such as Timugon, Tahol, Kolor, Paluan, Nabai, Tanggala, Tanggara, Binta and Bookan will take turns to lead the association,” he said when met after officiating the Annual General Meeting and Election of the Sabah Timugon Murut Ethnic Association (PEMTS) for the 2026-2028 session here.
Rubin said the process aims to strengthen grassroots participation as well as solidify the association’s leadership structure in a more inclusive and organised manner.
He also stressed that the active involvement of members at all levels is very important to ensure every decision made truly reflects the voice and aspirations of the Murut community as a whole.
According to him, this restructuring is believed to be able to increase administrative efficiency, expand strategic cooperation networks and strengthen unity among association members, simultaneously making it a main umbrella that unites all Murut sub-ethnics under one organised and inclusive platform.
He said through this approach, PMS will function as a platform for coordinating common policies and directions, besides becoming the collective voice of the Murut community in fighting for their interests at the State and national levels.
At the same time, he emphasised the importance of preserving customs, heritage and culture so that the identity of the Murut community continues to be protected and can be inherited by future generations.
