SOOK: The Murut Bokan Association said language is dignity and will not compromise when the fine line between technological advancement and the self-esteem of a community is breached.
In condemned the creation of a Murut song that was considered obscene and produced through artificial intelligence (AI).
This was emphasised in a discussion held at the Sook District Office recently, in connection with preparations for the association’s Annual General Meeting next March.
The meeting was chaired by its Chairman, Akinon @ Julius Palayak, who said the issue is a serious matter involving cultural identity and honour.
“Language is not cheap entertainment. It is our soul and history,” he said.
The meeting also discussed the restructuring of the organisation to strengthen its role and direction.
Akinon said technological advances, including the use of AI, should not be a licence to create content that pollutes culture.
He said that if the mother tongue is used for sensationalism, what is affected is not just the image, but the confidence of the younger generation in the value of their own heritage.
“If we ourselves do not take care of our language, who else will?” he added.
The association called on the community to be more ethical in the use of digital platforms and respect the sensitivity of local cultures.
“In a world where everything can be created with a few clicks, respect cannot be built with algorithms alone,” he said.
