SEMPORNA: A total of 115 cartons of untaxed cigarettes were seized in a raid on a Perodua Myvi at Jalan Kg Selamat, here, last Sunday.
A 25-year-old foreigner was detained in the operation following intelligence gathering.
The cigarettes were found in the car boot and outside the vehicle.
The male suspect admitted to working as a “runner” and was paid RM100 by an individual known, and also sold cigarettes on a small scale in Kg Selamat.
The Myvi was also seized, bringing the total seizure value of the cigarettes and vehicle to RM51,400.
The case is being investigated under the Customs Act 1967 and the Immigration Act 1959/63.
The suspect and seized items were handed over to the Semporna district police headquarters for further action.
