PAPAR: The distribution of treated water in Kawang and Kinarut, which had previously been affected, has now stabilised following intervention measures the past three weeks.
Member of Parliament for Papar, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said feedback received from residents of Kg Kawang indicated that the water supply is no longer subject to rationing schedules as before.
He said the affected areas had previously faced critical water supply disruptions beginning end of December, which impacted the daily lives of residents.
Immediately upon receiving complaints regarding the water issue, he and two elected representatives here – Kawang Assemblyman Datuk Ghulam Haidar Khan Bahadar and Limbahau Assemblyman Datuk Juil Nuatim – held discussions with the Chief Minister and the State Secretary to seek immediate intervention measures.
“The agreed immediate measure was to increase the treatment capacity of the existing Kogopon Water Treatment Plant (WTP) by 10 per cent, or additional four million litres per day (MLD), involving upgrading works on pumps and installation of cross-connecting of pipelines from the WTP to the main P3 tank in Kg Kawang.
“This intervention works were successfully completed within two weeks and are now showing positive results, with water supply restored and stabilised throughout Mukim Kinarut, including Kg Kawang.
“This measure is a short-term solution while awaiting the completion of a long-term project of constructing Kogopon 2 WTP expected to be this year,” he said.
Armizan who is also Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister said this here after attended a Program ‘Jualan Rahmah Madani’ and ‘Sentuhan Kasih’ program with residents of Kg Kawang.
He said the Kogopon 2 WTP project will increase treatment capacity by 40 MLD, thereby boosting and stabilising water supply throughout the Papar parliamentary constituency as well as in the northern part of Kimanis and the southern part of Putatan parliamentary constituencies.
Armizan also pledged to continue monitoring the Kogopon 2 WTP upgrading project to ensure it is completed according to schedule by the end of this year.
He also expressed appreciation to the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor, the State Secretary and the Sabah State Water Department, particularly the Papar Water Department, for their dedicated efforts in resolving the issue.
