KOTA BELUD: Quick action by the Fire and Rescue Department contained a kitchen fire and prevented it from spreading to a petrol station at Kampung Rantai Rosok here early Saturday.
The incident, reported at about 1.17am, destroyed about 70 per cent of a permanent kitchen structure within the station compound.
District Fire and Rescue Station chief Elge Bakuk said the department received an emergency call at 1.19am and dispatched eight personnel with a fire engine and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services utility vehicle to the scene, located 14 kilometres away.
He said firefighters immediately carried out extinguishing operations using a single water jet from the engine upon arrival and brought the fire under control at 1.45am before it could spread to the petrol station area.
No injuries or fatalities were reported, while the cause of the fire and estimated losses are under investigation, and operations concluded at 2.19am after safety checks were conducted at the site.
