10 foreigners jailed for illegal entry
They were charged under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, punishable under Section 6(3) of the same Act, which provides for a fine of up to RM10,000 or imprisonment of up to five years, or both, and may also include whipping of up to six strokes upon conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: Ten foreigners were each jailed four months by the Sessions Court here for illegal entry.

Of the 10, nine were Filipinos and one Indonesian, all of whom pleaded guilty before Judge Hurman Hussain to committing the offence at separate locations after being unable to produce valid travel documents.

They were charged under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, punishable under Section 6(3) of the same Act, which provides for a fine of up to RM10,000 or imprisonment of up to five years, or both, and may also include whipping of up to six strokes upon conviction.

The court ordered all 10 to be handed over to the Immigration Department for further action. The prosecution was conducted by Immigration prosecuting officer Kamrul Md Yusof.

In a separate case, a woman was fined RM700 or sentenced to one month in jail by the Magistrate’s Court for engaging in online gambling.

Norlin Kamis, 24, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to committing the offence on Nov 26, 2025, at 3.30pm, at a coffee shop in Bandaran Berjaya.

She was charged under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to six months, or both, upon conviction.

The prosecution informed the court that Norlin was arrested by police while gambling and that a Redmi mobile phone used in the activity was seized.

Inspection of the phone revealed a gambling application known as Epay Mobile Reload, and a gambling expert’s report confirmed that the application involved “games of chance.”
