PAPAR: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) will implement Ops Pantau 2026 from Feb 19 to March 20 to safeguard consumers and ensure price compliance throughout Ramadan and ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Its Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said enforcement teams nationwide would conduct more frequent and targeted inspections focusing on essential goods in high demand during the festive season.
He said supply and prices of essential goods are in high demand during Ramadan month and Hari Raya Aidilfitri, including items under scrutiny, such as sugar, chicken, eggs, cooking oil, wheat flour, fresh produce and baking ingredients.
“The main objective of Ops Pantau is to ensure sufficient supply of those items, proper price tagging, free from indiscriminate profiteering and compliance with government-gazetted prices for controlled goods, including items listed under the Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme of Hari Raya Aidil Fitri 2026’ (SHMMP).
“The operation will also monitor business premises offering cheap and promotional sales to prevent misleading advertisements, as well as Ramadan and Aidilfitri bazaars to curb the sale of counterfeit goods. Online platforms will also be monitored to detect sales activities that contravene existing laws,” he said.
Armizan said this in a press conference after opening the Benoni Burger King Drive-Thru at Parklane City, Sunday.
Also present were Pantai Manis Assemblyman Datuk Pg Saifuddin Pg Tahir Petra, KPDN Director-General Datuk Azman bin Adam, and Burger King Malaysia and Singapore Chief Executive Officer Ng Lee Tieng.
Armizan said KPDN enforcement officers would be stationed at strategic locations such as Ramadan and Aidilfitri bazaars, public and wet markets, morning and night markets, farmers’ markets, hypermarkets, supermarkets, mini markets, grocery shops and online sales channels.
“The ministry will also work closely with local authorities to ensure traders comply with regulations throughout the operation period.
“For record, Ops Pantau 2025 saw 70,906 inspections conducted nationwide, resulting in 390 cases with seizures amounting to RM42,878.52,” he said.
To a question, Armizan said 37 cases were recorded in Sabah from 3,403 inspections conducted across the state during the same period.
He said the offences identified were committed under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 (Act 723), which carries fines and compounds imposed by the court upon conviction.
“Among the offences were failure to display price tags, selling controlled goods above the maximum price, and failure to use pink price tags for controlled items.
“Therefore, we call on the public to cooperate as part of the mass movement under KPDN’s ‘Kita Gempur’ campaign by informing the ministry of any misconduct by any party,” he said.
Armizan said public cooperation, under the ‘Kita Gempur’ campaign, is crucial to curb unethical trading practices and protect consumers during the festive season.
