Kota Kinabalu: Three men were jailed between 14 and 30 years and ordered to receive caning for raping and sexually assaulting their underaged relatives.
The trio pleaded guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge A. Akhiruddin Acho, to their respective charges.

In the first case involving a father, who raped his 16-year and three-month-old daughter, was jailed 16 years plus 12 strokes of the cane.
He raped the daughter at a house in a village, here, on Dec 21, 2024.
The offence under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between 10 and 30 years, and whipping, on conviction.
The court ordered the father to be placed under police supervision for two years after completing his jail sentence.
In the second case, a 38-year-old man was jailed a total of 30 years plus 10 strokes of the cane on two counts of raping his niece.
The court sentenced the man to 15 years in prison and five strokes of the cane for each count, and ordered the jail terms to run from the date of his arrest.
While serving the sentence, the court ordered the man to undergo rehabilitative counselling and to be placed under police supervision for two years after completing the jail sentence.
The man raped the 15-year-old girl twice on July 25, 2023 at 11am and 2pm at the bushes in a junction to a village, here.
In the third case, a 45-year-old man was sentenced to a total of 14 years’ imprisonment and seven strokes of the cane for committing physical sexual abuse against his 17-year-old sister-in-law.
He was jailed 12 years and ordered to get five strokes of the cane for committing the offence against the girl by touching her private parts at 10pm on May 8, 2018 beside a school field, here.
The court handed another two years’ jail plus two strokes of the cane as additional punishment due to their relationship.
The man was ordered to serve the jail sentence consecutively.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Tham Pou Jin appeared for the prosecution while the trio were not represented.
Meanwhile, Kota Marudu District Police Chief Superintendent Simiun Lomudin stressed that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will not tolerate any sexual crimes, particularly those involving family members or minors, and that thorough investigations will continue until the perpetrators are brought to justice.
