Kota Kinabalu: Two men were each jailed eight months by the Magistrate’s Court here for disposing of stolen property.
Abdul Munir, 24, and Md Hafiszul, 27, pleaded guilty to separate charges under Section 414 of the Penal Code.
Abdul admitted to dishonestly disposing of stolen items, namely a laptop charger and a computer mouse, at 4.15pm on March 12 at Kinabalu City Park, Jalan Tugu, here.
Each charge carries a jail term of up to seven years, or a fine, or both, on conviction.
The facts of the case stated that the complainant’s rented room had been broken into on March 11, during which several computer-related items, including a laptop, charger and mouse, were stolen.
Acting on information, police arrested Abdul the following day.
He later admitted to discarding the stolen items, which were subsequently recovered.
Meanwhile, Hafiszul admitted to disposing of stolen items, namely a hydraulic crimping tool, hydraulic pliers, a hammer drill, a heavy-duty cable cutter and a scaffolding hook safety belt, at 1.15am on March 4 at Kg Likas.
According to the facts of the case, the items had been reported stolen from the complainant’s premises.
Following his arrest on March 3, Hafiszul led police to the location where the items were kept.
The items were recovered and later identified by the complainant as those reported missing.
Both Abdul and Hafiszul were ordered to serve their sentences from the dates of their respective arrests.
Meanwhile, a 45-year-old unemployed man was charged with causing hurt using a weapon.
Mat Ghani pleaded not guilty to using a knife to cause injuries to one Mohd Farizan on the palm and abdomen at a house in Taman Kingfisher, at 12.30pm on Feb 17.
The charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 10 years, or a fine, or whipping, or any two of the punishments, on conviction.
The court fixed April 23 for pre-trial case management and released the accused on bail of RM2,200 in two sureties, with the additional conditions that he report to a police station once a month and not disturb the complainant and prosecution witnesses.
