Father among trio sentenced for rape, sexual abuse
KOTA MARUDU: Three men were jailed between 14 and 30 years and ordered to be whipped after pleading guilty to raping and committing sexual offences against their underaged relatives at the Sessions Court here.

Sessions Court Judge A. Akhiruddin Acho sentenced a father to 16 years’ imprisonment and 12 strokes of the cane for raping his 16-year-and-three-month-old daughter at a house in a village here on Dec 21, 2024, an offence under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of between 10 and 30 years and whipping, and ordered that he be placed under police supervision for two years upon completion of his sentence.

In a separate case, a 38-year-old man was sentenced to a total of 30 years’ imprisonment and 10 strokes of the cane on two counts of raping his 15-year-old niece at 11am and 2pm on July 25, 2023 at bushes near a junction to a village here, with the court imposing 15 years and five strokes for each count to run from the date of arrest, and ordering him to undergo rehabilitative counselling while in prison and to be placed under police supervision for two years after serving his sentence.

In another case, a 45-year-old man was sentenced to a total of 14 years’ imprisonment and seven strokes of the cane for sexually abusing his 17-year-old sister-in-law by touching her private part at 10pm on May 8, 2018 beside a school field here, comprising 12 years and five strokes for the offence and an additional two years and two strokes due to their relationship, with the jail terms ordered to run consecutively.
