Suspect held over severed body case in Indah Permai

KOTA KINABALU: Police have arrested a local man in his 70s, believed to be linked to the murder of a woman whose body was severed into seven parts and discarded at several locations in Indah Permai here, Info X reported.

The suspect was detained at about 5pm in the city in an operation led by the City Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Division with assistance from the Luyang police station crime prevention patrol unit, the Sabah CID and Bukit Aman’s D8 technical team.

The arrest was made less than 24 hours after the discovery began at about 6.30am when a garbage lorry worker found a human hand and leg at a communal rubbish bin near a supermarket car park in Taman Indah Permai.

Subsequent searches led to the discovery of the victim’s head and torso at about 11.40am at another disposal site near a supermarket in Indah Permai.

One hand and one leg were still unaccounted for as of noon, with police continuing their search.

Acting city police chief Supt Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect had been identified and tracked down following investigations stemming from the recovery of the victim’s remains and that the motive is believed to be jealousy, which allegedly led to a quarrel between the suspect and the woman, believed to be in her 40s, before the fatal incident.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and that the suspect has been placed in a hospital for further examination before being remanded to assist in investigations.
