SANDAKAN: A 30-year-old local man was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment by the Sandakan Magistrate’s Court for failing to continue tuberculosis (TB) treatment as ordered.
Magistrate Yong Ching Hong imposed the sentence after Almahzar Madin pleaded guilty to the charge read before him on Thursday.

He was convicted under Section 12A of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) for failing to comply with an order to continue tuberculosis treatment, thereby exposing the public to the risk of infection.
He was also found to have breached Section 22(b) of the same Act for failing to comply with a lawful order issued by an authorised health officer requiring him to undergo treatment.
The offence carries a maximum penalty of a RM10,000 fine or up to two years’ imprisonment, and he was further ordered to complete his tuberculosis treatment according to the prescribed requirements and duration.
