KOTA KINABALU: Electrical equipment without Sirim safety labels valued at more than RM300,000 was seized by the Energy Commission of Sabah (Ecos) from two premises here on Wednesday.
The operation, involving 23 Ecos officers and assisted by four officers from Sirim Berhad as the Conformity Assessment Body recognised by Ecos, was conducted under Regulation 107 of the Electricity Supply Regulations 2024 (PPBE 2024).

Ecos Chief Operating Officer Ridwan Saham said the raid followed a Prohibition Notice issued in December 2025, but several premises were still found to be non-compliant and continued selling electrical equipment that did not meet legal requirements.
He said under subregulation 110(2) of the PPBE 2024, any party found guilty of selling consumer electrical equipment that does not comply with legal requirements may, upon conviction, be fined up to RM20,000 or imprisoned for up to two years, or both.
Ridwan said enforcement actions would continue to be intensified to safeguard consumer safety and ensure compliance with the laws in Sabah.
