KOTA KINABALU: A 62-year-old retired teacher was acquitted by the Sessions Court in Kota Kinabalu of three charges involving the use and attempted use of fake RM100 notes after the judge ruled the prosecution failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.
Aron @ Areon Rijak had been accused of using two counterfeit notes to buy groceries and attempting to use another in 2021 at a shop in Ranau.
The court heard testimony from eight prosecution and four defence witnesses.
In a separate case, a 34-year-old repeat drug offender was jailed five years and given two strokes of the cane after pleading guilty to taking syabu.
The man, who tested positive at a police station in September 2025 and had two prior convictions, will also be placed under police supervision for three years after completing his sentence.
