SANDAKAN: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) has welcomed participation and leadership from the Chinese community, in line with the party’s inclusive and multiracial struggle, said its acting president Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam.
He said PBS remained firmly committed to the principle of equality among all members regardless of race, religion or background, and would support any qualified leader to the highest level.
Joachim said this when officiating the PBS New Members Admission Programme organised by Tanjung Papat PBS here on Sunday.
He said that as PBS approaches its 41st anniversary, the party needs the best leadership from all races, including the Chinese community, and noted changing political dynamics in Sabah with increasing support for Chinese candidates from local parties in recent general elections.
At the event, which saw 150 new members join PBS led by Alex Tan, Joachim reiterated that the party prioritises the welfare of its members and Sabahans, while organiser and Tanjung Papat PBS deputy chief Nelson Sikin said the programme proved PBS belongs to all Sabahans.
