Kota Kinabalu: Prominent Chinese community leader Kapitan Chang Jing Cheng
(pic), widely regarded as the “Father of North China Community Development in Sabah”, died on Wednesday at the age of 78.
According to
Overseas Chinese Daily News (OCDN), family members said he passed away at about 10am.
His wake will be held at the Fook Look Soo Funeral Parlour here, with funeral arrangements jointly managed by his family and the Sabah North China Association.
Chang, whose original name was Chang Jin Cheng, was born in 1951 and was known for his long service to the Chinese community in Sabah, particularly in strengthening unity among Sabah Chinese with ancestral roots in North China.
He also promoted exchanges between Sabah and North China and helped establish ties with overseas Chinese organisations in Tianjin, Hebei and Beijing, and for his contributions was conferred several State honours including BK, BSK, ADK and ASDK.
