TAWAU: The Tawau District Novice Tennis Tournament 2026 was successfully held recently at the Tawau Sports Complex Tennis Courts, attracting 32 young players from various schools, local sports clubs and individual entries.
The tournament was organised by the Legacy Tennis Club with the aim of discovering new tennis talents while promoting a healthy lifestyle among youths.
Legacy Tennis Club chairman and coach Shameer Abdurahman said the event provided an opportunity for new players to experience real competitive play.
“Many players showed strong sportsmanship and encouraging improvement in their skills. We hope tournaments like this can continue in the future,” he said after the prize presentation ceremony.
In the men’s novice singles category, Muhd Afif Syahmi Suparman emerged champion after defeating Charlton Chan Khong 8-2 in an exciting final. Third place was shared by Stanley Hiu and Oscar Tan.
In the women’s novice singles category, Ummu Humaira Arsa won the title after beating Eyrdeena Syalea Mohd Nazrie 8–2, while third place went to Tanti Herawati Tan and Hailey Choong Ee Wen.
Trophies and cash prizes were presented to first, second and third place winners in each category.
Shameer thanked the sponsors, namely Youth Development, Sports and Creative Economy Minister and Apas Assemblyman Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan, 001 Mini Retreat, parents and behind-the-scenes supporters for their contributions.
