35 compete in Malaysia Soft Tennis Championship

Kota Kinabalu: Lam Bao Long of Kuala Lumpur clinched the men’s title at the Malaysia (Closed) Soft Tennis Championships 2026 held at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex last weekend.

He dethroned reigning champion Peraljit Singh from Selangor 5-2 in the final to claim the top prize and in third place was local lad Jedidiah Kwan who beat Kuala Lumpur’s Joe Chong 5-3 in the playoff.

In the ladies round robin competition, Euodia Lai of Kota Kinabalu secured the top position after winning all her matches. 

Second place went to Feebie Fam also from Kota Kinabalu followed by Eloise Voon and Allyson Faustina.

A total of 35 players took part in the two-day competition and Malaysia Soft Tennis Association (MSTA) president Dato Shamshuzaman Hj Sulaiman was pleased with the positive response and lauded the Sabah Soft Tennis Association (SSTA) for hosting a successful tournament.

MSTA vice president cum SSTA president Justin Liew, who officiated the closing ceremony on behalf of Shamshuzaman, said the tournament served as a selection platform for players to represent Malaysia in upcoming international tournaments such as the Korea Cup, China Cup and may also include the South East Asia Soft Tennis Federation (SEASTF) championship to be held either in Cambodia or Laos at the end of the year.

The top five players in the 16 under category he announced who will represent the nation at this year’s tournaments are male players Kovith Sharma, Jayden Jay Ng, Oswald Wong Sein Yao, Michah Lai and Wee Jian Fang, while the females on the list are Eloise Voon, Allyson Faustina, Wong Xin Yu, Makayla Lai and Tan Koh Xyn.

In addition, Jedidiah Kwan, Jairus Chung and Euodia Lai are shortlisted for the 18 under category.

Justin also extended his gratitude towards the Sabah Sports Council and MSTA in light of their ongoing support for the State body.
