Kota Kinabalu: Three men who sold three barrels of stolen empty alcoholic beverage containers for RM1,100 were each sentenced to one day in jail and fined RM1,800, or a month in prison if the fine was not paid.
Maxwell Arrone Suliman, 31, Zainal Abidin Cappi, 33, and Jaslin Saludin, 37, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farizza Wan Ghazali on Friday.
The offence occurred at noon on Jan 30 at Sriham Hardware Trading S/B, KM 25, Jalan Tuaran, and falls under Section 414/34 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum of seven years’ jail, a fine, or both, on conviction.
The court heard that on Jan 24, during a stock count of alcoholic beverage barrels, the complainant discovered a shortage, resulting in losses of RM6,000.
Investigations revealed that Maxwell, Zainal, and Jaslin had sold the barrels at a scrap metal shop, making a profit of RM1,100.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Arfa Anchal Khan represented the prosecution.
Meanwhile, a 65-year-old man, Abdirauf Asakil, was sentenced to 14 days in jail for stealing two long-sleeve t-shirts from a shop in Imago Shopping Mall on Jan 28.
Inspector Yusdi Basri prosecuted the case.
