Checks found the owner failed to produce any import permit or licence issued by the Department, resulting in the seizure of 27,000kg of frozen chicken leg products valued at an estimated RM268,410 under prevailing laws.
Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Datuk Jamawi Jaafar praised Sabah DVS for its swift and professional action, saying the State Government views seriously any attempt to bring in unapproved food products that could affect public health, biosecurity and public confidence in the national food control system.
Sabah DVS director Dr Zul Bahar said the operation was conducted in a planned and phased manner with cooperation from enforcement units and agencies, including the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) and the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, to strengthen food safety and state biosecurity.
