BEAUFORT: The Public Works Department (JKR) is urged to place traffic cones along the edge of an eroded road as a warning to road users to take an alternative route, as failure to do so could result in vehicles skidding off into the Padas River.
A road user, Risim Aham, said the affected stretch of road is located near the palm oil mill in Kampung Betanduk Lubak.

The erosion was caused by flooding; however, JKR has only placed sandbags to curb it. Despite this measure, the road remains dangerous, especially at night and during rainy conditions.
“How can road users see the erosion? The area is very dark at night, and there is concern that vehicles may skid off the road and fall into the Padas River,” he said.
JKR has an obligation to install warning signs in the area, as not all road users are aware of the situation. Heavy vehicles frequently use the road, which could further worsen the erosion.
Risim added that JKR must conduct an on-site inspection, as the erosion continues to deteriorate.
“If we wait for the riverbank to be repaired using gabion structures, it will take a long time. Therefore, JKR must act immediately by placing cones and warning lights to prevent vehicles from skidding off the road.
“We also request the Lumadan State Assemblyman, who is also the Assistant Minister of Fisheries and Food Industry, Datuk Ruslan Muharam, together with the Sipitang Member of Parliament, Datuk Matbali Musah, to advise and raise this matter with JKR,” he said.
